3 Things to Consider When Planning a Basement Remodel

In this article, we will focus on basement remodeling, going over three key things to consider to make your basement remodel a success.

  • Lighting – If you plan to remodel your basement into a full living space, then one key thing you will need to consider is the lighting. Because basements do not get much natural light, it’s important to add plenty of electric lights to compensate—without enough light fixtures, your basement will feel dim and unpleasant.
  • Accessibility – In our experience, many basements lack reliable railings for their stairs, which makes it difficult to get up and down safely. When planning a basement remodel, you should consider things like safety and accessibility. At minimum, we encourage you to make sure your basement stairs have sturdy handrails, and we also encourage you to think about secondary access (such as an exit into your yard) if possible.
  • HVAC – A third key thing to consider when planning a basement remodel is the HVAC setup. If your basement isn’t already connected to your heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, make sure to extend those systems to include the basement in your renovations. Otherwise, even after your basement is complete, no one will want to spend time there.
